the hairspray in the silver can

This past summer I got to be a pageant hostess for the Miss Teen Texas Pageant and the girls were all so gorgeous and sweet! I loved my time with them and learned some pretty great beauty and fashion tips! Several of the girls were using this silver can of hair spray and although I am super loyal to my red Big Sexy Hair hairspray I had to try theirs and I am kind of in love and thought I would share! Bed Head Hard Head Hairspray $18.99...tiara not included ;)

Sun & Sand

Hanes mens tank-target + capture necklace-twisted silver
I just got the new Sun and Sand Eyeshadow Palette from Bobbi Brown and I love it as much as I thought I would. The online Sephora reviews were a little negative about the palette, as far as the colors not really showing up. I always use a eye primer and I really didn't have that problem and I personally like that this palette is extremely light, bright, and neutral. It's a wonderful mix of neutral shadows, both shimmer-y and matte. Somehow all my regrets about not going to the beach this summer are a little more bearable with this bronze makeup.

I used pale cream all over the lid, bikini bronze in the inner corners of the eye,
and saddle and frappe in the crease. I also used Dallas by Benefit
as a bronzer and Makeup Forever Aqua LipLiner in 3C
with MAC Myth Lipstick
Thanks Bobbi Brown, you did good with this one.

latest sephora purchases

I made a little trip to Sephora with my sister and walked away with some exciting stuff.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Hydrating- $33 This is something that I bought, used up completely and had to repurchase. I have dry skin and so I am always looking for things that will hydrate my skin. This does just that and keeps my foundation on all day long. Total winner!

Orgins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream- $30 I have not stuck with one eye cream. I feel of all the skin to take care of the eye is the most delicate and most important, so I am always looking for the next best thing. The biggest thing about this eye cream is that it claims to depuff and help with dark circles. So I have high hopes for this one.

Korres Rose Sauvage + Vitamin C Facial and Scrub- The Facial is sold individually for $48, but it is also sold in a box with the scrub for $48. So I mean, if it was going to be the same I was getting the scrub too! The overnight facial is a combination of a mask and a moisturizer that stabilizes your skin while nourishing it, hopefully making it radiant in the morning. I can't wait to do a review on it in a few weeks.

Thierry Mulger Alien Perfume- $80 I absolutely love this scent. I think perfume is entirely personal preference so you may not love it like I do, but at least go smell it. If mysterious could be a smell, it would be this perfume. I bought a bottle that is re-fillable, but there are several different bottle sizes and options.

How To Use MAC Pigments

Vanilla (great for a highlighter) and Copper Sparkle (wonderful as a crease shadow)
I bought some MAC Pigments a while back and forgot that I had them until today. They are a loose shadow with a lot of color so a little goes a long ways. I think they are very fun and can add more dimension to your eye than a regular shadow. Below is a step by step of how I use them without making a huge mess!

STEP 1: I am using a MAC 239 brush. Barely dip the bristles into the pigment
STEP 2: Tap the pigment from the brush into the lid
and work with the pigment in the lid
STEP 3: Tap brush on the side of the lid to knock off extra pigment

STEP 4: Use the small amount left on your brush to apply and
repeat steps 2-4 as needed until you reach the desired look.

Morange

It's no secret, I am kind of about MAC Morange lipstick. Especially in the summertime. Especially today. I was away on the 4th and so I feel like I am catching up on some of the things I would have done if I had been home like swimming in the pool, eating pie and ice cream, and of course wearing my favorite orange-y red lipstick.

minimal makeup

I don't know about you but some weekends, okay most weekends, I just want to be in a comfy tee and sweat pants and less makeup. Here is what I do for a minimal makeup look. It is quick and easy. Promise!

wearing a no rest for the rad tee by top knot goods and the capture necklace by twisted silver

1. Primer, I am not skipping this step because I feel like if I am going to take the time to put stuff on my face it had better last! I am using the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer right now and I really like it.

2. Foundation, I honestly don't remember which one I used, but I applied it with a beauty blender (time saver).

3. Hoola Bronzer by Benefit on my cheekbones

4. I curled my eyelashes with my shu uemura eyelash curler, which I love and then applied Cover Girl Mascara from the orange tube, in the darkest color they make.

5. MAC Myth lipstick

Hope your weekend was full of the beginnings of summer!

Going to the Chapel...

This wedding took place in the cutest little white chapel with the most lovely bridal room filled with vintage pieces. I wish I had thought to take a few pics of it! It perfectly suited the bride Katt, who wore a vintage gown and wanted the classic red lip. It was so fun making her up for her special day!

Lashes are by Eyelure and the lipstick is Mac Red by MAC

Prom Updo

I got to do prom hair and makeup for a friend's senior prom and guys, how gorgeous is Skyler? The prom was Titanic themed and so we decided to do an updo and I completely love how it turned out.

So first I put Suave Dry Shampoo in the roots and teased the top section of her hair and pulled the top half up and secured it with bobby pins. Then I sprayed Redkin Wool Shake Slush (discontinued but you can still find it on Amazon) through the bottom section of her hair and curled it with a one inch curling iron. I then pinned the curls up to hide the bobby pins from the hair I already pinned up and created the updo. I kept some sections loose and just adjusted different sections and curls till it looked the way I wanted it to look and then sprayed and curled the front pieces around her face. I then sprayed everything with Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Harder Hair Spray.

twisted silver

I almost never buy jewelry and I tend to keep things pretty simple, but I recently stumbled upon Twisted Silver and fell in love. I like that their stuff is super versatile and you can dress it up or down and mix and match. These are my new favorites necklaces and I really never want to wear anything else.

so I made a face mask

So I, myself, me…the cooking disaster made a face mask! I think a combination of stress and little sleep and hormones and a trip to the zoo (I am convinced the wind blew an excessive amount of dirt into my face) has left me with the biggest breakout ever. It's not pretty guys. And I just ordered new face products to change up my skin care routine, but they aren't here yet so there was just no avoiding it, I HAD to make a face mask. So I chose a tried and true one, with two ingredients. Meet "the super easy face mask that even felicia can't mess up."

So the good thing about this is you probably have both ingredients in your house right now. Aspirin is known to reduce redness, swelling, and pain while helping to clear up the situation! And Honey is just great on so many levels and will thicken the mask.

Step 1: use just enough water to dissolve tables, I used six and they dissolve very quickly so a little water is all you need

Step 2: add honey to thicken and mix with a spoon. (I used one spoonful of raw, local honey)

Step 3: I washed my face with warm water first to open up my pores and then applied the mask and I left the mask on for about 12 minutes before washing it off.

And that is it! It was so easy and I really could see a difference in the redness and sensitivity.

Lip Tar

Mannequin, Hollywood, Kimber, and Pleasure Model

I tried Lip Tar and now I am in deep love! They really stay put. I tried everything, except kiss someone and it lasted through it all. Lip Tar is perfect for those times when re-applying isn't going to be an option, prom is a great example. You are going to want to focus on the evening and having fun, not on finding a moment to sneak away for a touch up. Lip Tar has so many color choices in a matte finish or a glossy shine finish and each one is very pigmented so a little goes a long way. Lip Tar is also 100% vegan and cruelty free…so that is an awesome bonus!

Mannequin is my current favorite-$18 at Sephora

hair care

I went lighter for the summer! I was really feeling like going dark, but my hair girl, Angela at Chandeliers Boutique and Salon, knows best and I love the results. I have had to up my game with the hair care though because in addition to the color, I do all the bad things. I blow dry and straighten and curl and so my poor hair needs some extra love.

Unite Luxury Argan Oil,  It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in, and Unite 7 Seconds Condition

I am now using the Unite 7 Seconds Condition right after I wash and condition my hair and it an amazing leave in conditioner/detangler. I spray that very liberally all over. Then I use the Unite Luxury Argan Oil through the middle and ends of my hair. My hair is pretty thick and coarse and this stuff works magic and some how makes my hair soft, but leaves it with enough of the natural grit and texture for me to style it how I want to. After that I spray the It's a 10 on there, because it's a good heat protector and then I blow dry and style.

Tanning and St. Tropez

Summer is so close and if you are like me and want a little more color on your face, you should definitely try out St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. You can get both the Mousse and the tanning mitt at Sephora. St. Tropez is great for not only the body, but also the face so no worries there! I really have no idea what it is about a tan, but I always wear less makeup and it makes hiding little blemishes so much easier.

Nail Polish is Orly Glowstick

A little goes a long way with this stuff. Don't forget to exfoliate first and apply to
your ears and down your neck as well so everything matches.

The mitt can be a little tricky to use when applying the mousse to the face, so next time I will probably use
an old wash cloth and use the mitt to apply to the body.

The Beauty Blender

My sister Danie gifted me with an assortment of beauty blenders, which I just now got around to trying and my life is forever changed! I can't believe they have been sitting in my possession a whole month and I had no idea how fantastic they were! If you are already a makeup sponge fan, then don't hesitate…commit! If you are a brush kind of girl then know I was right there with you on not really caring about the slightly pricey non disposable makeup sponge, because I never cared about the cheap makeup sponge. But guys!!! It saves so much TIME. The shape of this thing was made to get the job done and it leaves such a flawless finish to your foundation. I am all in on this one!

last year's favorites that made it into 2014

Sebastian Volupt Spray- I got a sample in a beauty box last summer and fell in love with this stuff. I spray it in my hair before I curl it if I want a little more volume or on my straight hair if it is day 4 or 5 and it is going a little limp.

Wigo Teasing Comb- I love to tease the roots of my hair for a little lift and this comb totally gets the job done.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer- This was an end of the year discovery and I have no idea how I lived before owning this bronzer. It is great for contouring the face and it keeps you looking sun kissed, even in the coldest months.

Suave Dry Shampoo- Washing my hair is such an ordeal and I can now put it off a full week if I want to with this stuff by my side. This is my secret weapon for having unwashed, day 7 hair, that looks like day 2 hair. Oh, and did I mention it is under $3?

Sonia Kashuk Concealer Palette in Hidden Agenda- I have no idea how to pronounce the name of this brand but it doesn't matter, this palette rocks and it is at your local Target! It contains two different concealer shades, so if you get a tan you don't have to go out and buy a whole new concealer and the neutralizer in this palette works some serious magic in desperate times!

MAC Turquatic- I like this scent and guys do too…winner!
